Services for Seniors
James Bay Community Project and Capital City Volunteers support low-income seniors ($35,000 or less for an individual, $45,000 or less for a couple) age 65+ to live independently in their own home.
Our Services Include:
Outreach
Outreach workers offer support to people living in the Municipality of Victoria. Outreach workers can:
- Provide information about resources in the City of Victoria
- Provide information about programs operating out of James Bay Community Project
- Link and refer you to the programs we offer (i.e. volunteer-delivered services and Better at Home Light Housekeeping)
Volunteer-Delivered Services
James Bay Community Project and Capital City Volunteers have a roster of dedicated volunteers who can assist with tasks including:
- In-home friendly visits
- Walking
- Light gardening
- Reading and writing assistance
- Computer support
- Income tax preparation
- Organizing assistance
- Minor home repairs
- Dog walking
- Medical and errand drives
Program registration is required for all services
Light Housekeeping
The Better at Home Light Housekeeping Program supports seniors 65+ in the municipalities of Victoria and Oak Bay to remain living independently at home. The light housekeeping program offers 2 hours of service once a month. The cleaning includes:
- Full clean of the bathroom
- Basic clean of kitchen
- Changing of bed linens
- Garbage and recycling
- Vacuuming and/or cleaning of the floors throughout the home
Please note:
- Laundry services are not provided
- Fee for light housekeeping service is on a sliding scale based on the senior’s household income
- Seniors may qualify for a subsidy
Referrals
To be connected with the services offered by James Bay Community Project or Capital City Volunteers, prospective participants must adhere to the intake process and agree to a home visit to be assessed for services. Seniors may self-refer.
