We believe that volunteering is a two way street that benefits both the individual and the organization and builds connected community.
Volunteers
We have 100+ volunteers with a wide variety of skills and ranging in age from teenagers to elders. We place a strong emphasis on providing supportive and inclusive volunteer opportunities so everyone can contribute to the community, develop meaningful experiences and make connections.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering with JBCP includes opportunities with Capital City Volunteers (a sister agency to JBCP serving seniors and adults with disabilities in Victoria), and the Victoria & Oak Bay Better At Home program. Roles and tasks may include:
- Friendly visitors/companions
- Driving seniors to and from medical appointments
- Family Resource Centre playgroup support
- Gardening
- Community Closet Thrift Store clerks
Becoming a Volunteer
Contact the Coordinator of Volunteers to schedule an interview/information session. Sessions take place Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Alternate times can be arranged.
If a volunteer opportunity is offered to you, references will be required. For some positions, a Criminal Records Review is also required.
Additionally, drivers who volunteer must have a class 5 licence, a clear Driver’s Abstract and $2-million dollars in third party liability insurance.
Once all the administration is complete, new volunteers will be provided with an orientation prior to starting their volunteer role.
